A 12-year-old child in middle school somewhere out there. His parents cannot afford to keep your stomach filled or get you decent clothes. He gets bullied every day and need to find a way out even if his parents cannot help him. This is how children in poverty feel every day of their lives. One in five people live below the poverty level, no matter their surroundings. Knowing this it is difficult to calculate the actual amount of people in an environment that are living in poverty (Thompson[pg2]). Poverty is a complication of a persons or family’s income and living conditions. Poverty and Americas' children have found a way to intertwine by complications in family income. Poverty includes families of four living on $23,834 a year. At a more extreme end, 1.65 million households lived in "extreme poverty". Extreme poverty is a survival of $2 or less per person, per day. (Thompson[pg.2]) The amount of people living in poverty is overwhelming our countries streets causing unhealthy wretched thoughts. Nevertheless, growing up in poverty makes it more difficult to overcome the distraught times. Temporary Assistance for Needy Families is a program that has been helping families in need for many years. Programs like this have helped make life for people in poverty progressively better with a chance at living a normal life. “Welfare pays cash benefits. The National Diaper Bank Network is a program that helps supply diapers to people who need it. Studies show that 30-percent of low income families cannot afford diapers for their young.
