Poverty In The Other Wes Moore

Wealth is an abundance of something, whether this be money or love in your heart. Poverty is however the opposite of wealth, and although some are born into poverty, the gift of free will allows one to follow a path to wealth with determination and hard work. In the Other Wes Moore, a novel by Wes Moore, poverty is more heavily present alongside wealth as Wes Moore (author) and the Other Wes Moore (in prison) both have grown up in a financial poverty. In the SHC Community, there is an abundance of wealth which diminishes the poverty both intellectually, and financially. In both the SHC Community and The Other Wes Moore, the tensions between poverty and wealth are clearly present and show how they shape our own lives.
Although not shown in The Other Wes Moore, it is important to note that even though someone is “wealthy” in one sense, they may be “poor” in another. Financial wealth allows for many opportunities that may not have come while being not as fortunate. For example, rich people can afford nice things and splurge with their money. They can also afford top-notch health care and insurances that further help them live a long and healthy life. All of this sounds fantastic and even ideal, but money doesn't buy happiness.

We act as a caring community through our community drives such as the Food Can Drive, Giving Tree, Season of Giving, etc… Through these events, our community grows together and try to assist the less fortunate. SHC also has a wealth intellectually as other students take advantage to the “peer to peer learning strategy.” This has benefited many in the community, but most importantly, myself. I have benefited from the help of my friends such as Jennifer, Ryan, Jack etc… This has led to an increase of my knowledge in all subjects, which has also allowed me to share my new wealth in knowledge with others such as Connor, Diego,
