Law enforcement officers have many roles to fill and none are more important than the power and ethics that are linked together for them to exercise at their discretion. Being able to exert the power of the position at the same time as maintain integrity of the office and the ethical standards of such can be difficult at best. Police control consists of:
1. Authority – entitlement that comes to being obeyed
2. Power – the means to achieve domination
3. Persuasion – the use of signs, symbols, words, and arguments to induce compliance
