Of course power corrupt, just like money does. It's very easy to fall into the vices of power because when you have power your ego just explodes. Look at Macbeth in the very early stages of the play, he's very loyal to his king and partially because of that Duncan promotes him to the Thane of Cawdor. But almost instantaneously he starts plotting to overthrow and remove Duncan from his throne. Power will go to your head. There's no doubt in my mind about it, people in power more then likely will start to abuse it simply because they think they can. They think that they can get away with it because they have so much power and their ego has just been lifted up so high they think they're untouchable. They're people who don't go mad with power.
