Every time a new movie or show comes out, more than likely, it’s about superheroes. Some might recognize those superheroes, while others might not. However, everyone knows for sure that they all possess superpowers. Power is found in those who has the ability to influence their surroundings. Nevertheless, whether for the better or the worse, power is something that people desire. In today’s society, the definition of power varies from person to person. In both Frankenstein by Mary Shelley and Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoyevsky, power involves the desire to overcome or surpass a belief.
First of all, power could simply be physical means. Superheroes are physically built to transition objects, withstand harm, and attack their enemies. Weapons are powerful tools. They can attack and harm anything. In Frankenstein, with his body, the monster could simply destroy everything. People used rocks and different tools as weapons to attack the monster. In Crime and Punishment, Raskolnikov uses an axe as a form of power to kill the pawnbroker. Similar to physical power, mental toughness is also a powerful tool.
