The political aspect of the question, “ What type of power sparks revolution” is being further expanded in this essay. It is broken down into three sections: power of mistreatment, power of religion, and power of words. This essay will explain of how these types of power impact a revolution. The first type of power that is going to be expanded on is religion. Religion is a very complicated power, so it is further broken down. First there is religious preferences. History shows how when people are being persecuted based on religion they revolt and start a revolution. We can see this type of power causing a revolution in Syria. This is best seen in a quote from Sedeca, “ Conflicts take on a religious component when injustices are perpetrated along religious lines—as is the case in Syria—and/or where religious persecution pushes religious believers to use violence to oppose such persecution.” (Sedeca). This statement shows how an injustice or a religious preference pushes people to do something. This is the spark that is mentioned in the research question. The mistreatment can be based on inherent characteristics such as skin color. When people are mistreated they seek change. A clear example of this is the civil rights movement. The people were mistreated for their skin color but people rose up and caused a revolution. Also mistreatment in an economic aspect also spark a revolution. The American Revolution is a big example of this too. Since the colonies had to pay taxes with representation they revolted. This mistreatment of their economic values created a new nation. The mistreatment of of inherent characteristics and economic characteristics create a spark for people to rise and confront the status quo and create a revolution.
