Women’s work was usually focused on the household work since the late colonial period over the American Revolution. The work of a wife was frequently together with her husband, running a household, farm or plantation. Raising children and cooking for family took a chief part of women’s daily time. Also, making garments, weaving clothes, stitching and sewing clothes and keeping the house in proper order took much time. Many other women worked as servants and some were enslaved. Furthermore, many European women were indentured servants that is they need to serve for a certain time before having independence.
