The Pre Columbians vs. Europeans Compared to the Europeans, the pre-Columbians had more of an advantage in the Americas, in my opinion. The Europeans had to travel here and find a way for living. The pre-Columbians had an advantage because they were here much longer, were super smart, had cropping benefits, and created many of their own things. According to Mayan Mathematics, the Mayan people were in Central America from 2000 BC to 900 AD. This period was called the Classic Period. They would create mounds to bury their higher loved ones. Hernando Cartes, a Spanish explorer, didn’t arrive to the Americas until 1519. He studied Tenochtitlan, and he was amazed at the Aztec empire. This shows that the pre-Columbians were there longer and had an impact on the Europeans on some of their ideas. All pre-Columbian groups were great planters. The Incas were beyond amazing at planting potatoes. According to Potato Civilization, they would mix and match different varieties to make different tasting potatoes. The Incas created a research station for the potatoes high in the Andes. This caused the weather and climate to be different. The Incas were known to experiment with new crops and try to find new flavors. The pre-Columbians were super smart, especially the Mayans. They created their own type of math. They had their numbering system based on base 20. Their math only had 3 symbols: zero, which was a shell shaped object; one, which was a dot; and five, which was a bar.
