Precrime In Minority Report

This week in class we viewed the film Minority Report which came out in 2002 but is based in 2054. In the movie, PreCrime is used to stop crimes before they are able to take place, however, the perpetrator is still arrested even though they did not technically commit the crime yet. My issue with this form of PreCrime is that in the actual moment of the incident, the perpetrator may decide to not go along with killing another individual which was clearly shown by John the protagonist in the story. Our current justice system, allows officers to arrest individuals for attempted murder which is similar to the PreCrime system in the movie. To expand on that, in the present day real world, PreCrime is used but as predictive policing where police officers are out watching people who may have committed a crime, are believed to be committing a crime, or …show more content…
Moving forward, even though this time period is still a ways away, a lot of what took place in the film especially when it came to technology could be happening soon if it is not already being used. To elaborate, in the beginning of the film, John used multi-touch interface technology to find a man who was destined to kill his wife for committing adultery. It is great that John was able to find this man and stop him from killing his wife before he was going to since it saved her life but it still ruins his even though he did not really kill her. Besides that, I have a few issues with the way in which technology was used to find people. For example, with this same crime, the images John used to find this man are from personal lives, particularly what his son was doing was used to narrow down where his dad was. My issue with this is that kids are involved and in the technology system so not only were they watched, information about them was recorded and
