1/26/16 Othello Paragraph I think that the most noticeable theme in Othello was the theme of prejudice. There was more than one form of prejudice shown in Othello; racial prejudice and hatred of women. In the very first scene, Roderigo and Iago describe and belittle Othello in unmistakably racial terms by calling him "Barbary horse" and "thick lips." The characters that are prejudiced themselves use some terms that portray Othello as being an animal or a beast. They use racist language to try and illustrate Othello as being an outsider to white Venetian society with him being of a different race, and also defining him as being less of a human than them and trying to show that he does not deserve respect
