In today’s society, differences are discriminated against. May ideals and stereotypes are widely accepted, but each is false. Contrary to the popular belief, humans are not that different from each other. Pride, fate, and internal conflict affect everyone in the species. From the beginning of time to modern day, technology may have advanced but the essence of humanity has stayed the same. By reading literature from many different cultures, the similarities that humans share can be seen. Throughout history, humans in every culture have constantly been effected by their pride. Every human has his or her own set of moral codes which make decision making hard. The main character Rama often has to make decisions that are challenging for him. One such decision was when Rama tried to decide whether or not to kill the evil woman Tataka. He grew up believing that it was immoral to kill women, so when he came before Tataka, even though she was evil, he still hesitated. Humans today hesitate to do what they know is right because they are scared of the repercussions. As a person is raised, his or her moral code will differ based on the beliefs they were surrounded by growing up. Those who grow up in America are going to be drastically different from the Fulani because their location, practices, and beliefs. These differences are make each culture unique, and therefore when making decisions they will take into account what influenced them growing up. Where an American would kill a cow for a cheeseburger, the Fulani would never kill a cow because cows are sacred. Neither is wrong with either of these choices, but they were raised to believe two different things about the cows. No matter the time or culture, humans will make decisions based on what they believe is correct. Fate is a force that all humans deal with but none can control.
