a)After the peace of 1783, the Cherokees were an independent people; absolutely so, as much as any people on earth. They had been allies of Great Britain, and as a faithful ally took a part in the colonial war on her side»
Indian nation had been declared sovereign so they would be legally capable of ceding their lands.Now the Cherokee hoped to use this status to their advantage .But unfortunately as we see ,states did not recognize their status and saw them as a hindrance to the development of land.And Britains power over the USA was broken, so the Indians had no protection.
