Progressivism In America During The 1920's

Progressivism in America in the 1890s to 1920s had some beneficial aspects but I mostly think it had negative consequences. Granted, some things wouldn’t have ever happened had it not been for Progressivism. For example, women during this time gained more influence and could advocate for things like suffrage. I found it very impressive that they used the President’s own words against him, forcing people to pay attention to what they were saying (Progressive Era). I also found the connection to today’s times interesting, in that people still use the President’s as well as other political leaders, own words to advocate against them. However, even with the positive things such as suffrage gaining momentum, you still must consider things such as there not being tolerance for other views during this time, known as “expertise,” Progressives believing they were the …show more content…
This article fully showed the impact of Progressives believing they were the “fixers” on everything and they knew what was best for everyone. For example, the doctors of this time only took into consideration the outside anatomy of the human beings to determine fertility. Even then, they still largely blamed the woman, however, you do have to consider that they didn’t know as much as we do today when it comes to anatomy and medicine. Even with that though, it shocked me how much they still supported impregnating a woman without her consent, knowledge of it happening, or even her husband’s knowledge. When I read this article, aside from being shocked at everything in it, it made me think about how many other times things like this might have happened, and just went unreported. This article clearly has an impact on our lives now, knowing something this unethical happened, so I can only imagine the overwhelming impact the ideas of the Progressives had on American’s lives in that
