America's history is deeply affected by alcohol throughout time. Such as affecting the judgement of war generals, and actions of some of our founding fathers. Yet in 1920, politicians passed a law banning alcohol, known as Prohibition. This was done because many people believed that alcohol was the reason for many problems in the United States. Citizens, especially females, connected alcohol with crime and violence, which in many cases is true. Though Prohibition does look like a good idea, it was destined to fail. With alcohol being illegal, bootleggers were created, and these were people who would illegally transport alcohol. They then will kick the person out to the streets, and often with very poor decision making skills anymore, the person will get into a car and attempt to drive home. By this restaurant allowing this person to be intoxicated, they put everyone on the road life’s at risk. So instead of banning alcohol all together, I think if the government regulated the quantity of alcohol allowed served or sold, it can decrease the amount lives lost due to alcohol related incidents. To believe that there is a way to stop everyone in the United States from drinking is completely illogical. People will always find a way to get alcohol, and this could cause more problems than just having alcohol be legal. Yes other drugs do cause violence because they are illegal and gangsters are looking for territory, but I believe those drugs would cause just as much violence if they were legal. Though i do believe the United States police force do as good as they can to prevent drunk drivers, I believe that there should be harsher punishments for driving under the influence. If you drive while intoxicated, not only are you risking your own life but you are putting all the people driving near you in danger also. I think this deserves more than just a ticket or fine.People should have to do jail time if they are driving under the influence, whether they hurt somebody or not. This will also lead others away from drinking and driving because they don't want the consequences of it. Any way to make the roads safe for all should be accepted by the
