Significance of Io’s Scene In Prometheus Bound

Io’s scene in Aeschylus’ ‘Prometheus Bound’ has great significance as it serves as a turning point in the play, making the audience turn against Prometheus as his hamartia (character flaw) is revealed. If Io’s scene was not included, the audience would still feel sympathy towards Prometheus by the end, thus defeating Aeschylus’ purpose of the tragedy. Both Prometheus and Io are victims of Zeus’ tyranny. They are both being punished for displeasing Zeus in some way.
