Prometheus and Oceanus in Prometheus Bound In the tragedy written by Achechlyes called “Prometheus Bound” we get a chance to view a rare encounter between two Titans. This script provides a narrative while Prometheus is being punished by Zeus after not complying with Zeus demands. Prometheus also knows as the fire-bringing and the one who brought intelligence to mankind, was being punished by Zeus for his originally trickery, and brining fire back to the humans. While being tied to a rock, Oceanus the god of the ocean, arrives on his winged beast to advise Prometheus. The interview between Oceanus and Prometheus is significant because it demonstrates Prometheus feelings regarding his stance against Zeus. Primarily, even though Oceanus is there to advise Prometheus to ask for forgiveness from Zeus, Prometheus is astute in his stance that words will not be enough. Even though it may look superficially that kinship draws Oceanus to support Prometheus, it seems unlikely. Their witty, sarcastic banter and actions seem to undermine Oceanus original intent to placate Zeus on behalf of Prometheus for forgiveness. Their back and forth alludes that how forcefully Oceanus seems to want to get Prometheus to accept Zeus as a ruler. Oceanus values the hierarchy as established by Zeus as the continual state of humanity. Oceanus believes that Zeus is the all powerful and that humanity and Prometheus should be aware of that as a subtle threat. It seems that however Zeus treats everyone is deemed as inevitable. However, there does seem to a slight hint from Prometheus that all the people that Zeus has punished could rise up against him, line 464 “will then erupt and shoot out molten arrow”.
