Before Alexander the Great became king, the Greek-city states were destroying themselves with Spartans and their allies on one side and Athens and their allies on another side. Each side lost many men which both side weak left them acceptable to attacks. From the north, lead a Greek kingdom mane Macedonia and their king, Philip. The southern Greeks that the north was full of barbaric people. Macedonia did have two big advantages over the southern Greek-states, first one is that they been unified under one ruler instead of many rulers and they had military prowess that the south was lacking. Thus, this lead the complete Greek world to be under one ruler, which was Macedonia. King Philip was succeed by his son Alexander when he was nineteen. By then Alexander, some could say a genius because he had displayed strong leadership and military skills starting at a young age. Alexander come to be, tutored by a Greek philosopher, which was Aristotle, which may be the influence Alexander to passionate about the Greek culture. In Professor Emeritus, first argument is that Alexander the Great offered his men a chance to go home but he did have some few terms if they decided to go home to Macedonia. If the left for Macedonia they have to leave their families, they had in Asia and that, they would receive their pay until they had reached home. The sons that military men had left in Asia could soon follow their fathers once they were raised in a way that was appropriate for Macedonia. I feel as though that this does not make him all that great why would Alexander make people choose their family over then going back to Macedonia, He should have let their families go back with them I just do not find that very
