The reason why Brazil sued the United States in the World Trade Organization was because “the subsidies the United States provided to US producers violated WTO trade agreements and gave US farmers an unfair advantage” (Unit 7: Lesson 5). The dispute resulted in an agreement where the United States would provide agricultural subsidies to Brazilian farmers in order to avoid the punitive measures that the Brazilian government could pursue. A pro of subsidies to farmers is that it protects domestic industry and keeps American farmers out of business. A con is that it restricts global trade and potential growth in our economy (Unit 7: Lesson 5). I think that we should keep subsidizing our farmers, but
