Why Flag Burning should be Illegal
Flag burning is something that has been argued about for many years. Many people see the flag for more than its colors, more than the thirteen stripes, and more than the fifty stars. And then there are others that believe they can do whatever they want to the flag without facing any consequences. People have very well thought out opinions and both argue well against each side of it. Then, there are others that have fought for this country, for the flag, for freedom who find the United States quite wonderful. My opinion on flag burning, I find it completely disrespectful not only to those around you but to those that have fought for your freedom and that flag. A very well know cause of flag burning is Texas Vs Johnson where he was protesting Reagan's policies and his administration. Many were part of this protest but Johnson was one that took it to another level when he was handed an American Flag but another protester in front of Dallas city hall. Where he unfolded the flag and drenched it with kerosene and set it on fire, while chanting. Even though know one was hurt in the process people around Johnson that witnessed him burning the flag were deeply offended and disgusted as to why someone would do such a thing. Flag burning should also no way be protected by the first amendment it is no way form of someone's political expression there are other ways to do so. Especially taking a flag down from a state building it not being your flag makes it so much worse. And to those saying that it is no big deal it is, if people feel the need to burn the flag they can either leave or they can serve the time for what they had did.
