The world is always changing wether it is technology or medicine. WIthin these changes there are mixed views and controversy. This happens especially when the topic is about gentrification. According to the definition from Merriam-Webster, gentrification is “the process of renewal and rebuilding accompanying the influx of middle class into deteriorating area that often displaces poorer residents”. Now the concept itself is like a mathematical equation economic increase plus a safer neighborhood equals a positive reputation. Yet there are those who believe the idea of gentrification is bad for the community causing family oriented shops to go business and creating a loss of culture within the city. In the city of Fullerton a majority of the buildings and houses appear modern attracts future homeowners. When I was younger I remember the city never caught my attention, however it was not until I visited in late 2014 that there was a change. I noticed signs and benches being repainted, more palm trees being planted and a ton of construction on roads. Since the changes seen in Fullerton there has been an increase in property value for the city. Homes that were at one point unoccupied are now filled with residents at a higher rent, Besides homes there is also an opportunity for small shops or boutiques to thrive. With a raise in home value and an increase of tourists to boom small businesses, the city will be raised to a higher standard where roads and city facilities will be improved. Compared to where I live the city of La Puente is not gentrified. It is a hispanic dominated suburban town with an average income of 60 thousand.
