The constitution was signed on September 17, 1787. The reason the constitution was created was to replace the Articles of confederation which established a “firm league of friendship” between the states and vested most power in a congress of the confederation. They wanted to limit that power but the power was also extremely limited. They wanted to create a government with enough power to act on a natural level. The convention wanted to separate the government in three different branches with reserved and concurrent power they also wanted checks and balances to make sure that not one branch gains supremacy.
