The Manhattan Project
This is what ended world war two. The Manhattan Project is the building of an atomic bomb. The two bombs were used on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. This will be on the progression of the Manhattan Project.
Lets see how America got into this position. First Japan attacked Pearl Harbor. America had island-hopped to Japan. President Truman made the decision to drop the two bombs on Japan. This was a very controversial decision.
This is how and when the Manhattan Project started. The Manhattan Project started on May 12, 1942. President Roosevelt had just received a letter from Einstein. It said that Germany was trying to develop the atomic bomb. That is when President Roosevelt signed an order to create a secret project called the …show more content…
As a direct result of the two bombs 60,000 people died immediately. A hundred-thousand people died as a result of radiation poisoning. That made Japan want to surrender fast. Japan surrendered a day after the last bombing.
Here are some of the pros of the Manhattan Project. It developed engineering and science. It encouraged people to do work in science. It ended world war two.It opened people up to the idea of nuclear weapons.
Cons of the Manhattan Project. Some people could have spied on the project. It helped cause the cold war. 100,000 people died from radiation poisoning after the initial explosion.
The Trinity Test. The bomb tested in the Trinity test site had the force of 40,000 pounds of dynamite. The test was 2,000 times more powerful than the biggest bomb of that time. The government released a bogus cover story.
Who was involved. Einstein was the one who wrote the letter to President Roosevelt. Robert Oppenheimer was the main scientist on the project. Enrico Fermi also worked on the project. Einstein was not allowed to work on the project. Woodrow wilson was the one to order the bombs on Nagasaki and Hiroshima.
