The Great Depression left many Americans unemployed and depressed. Many were hungry, starving, and even homeless. Their life was in despair, with unequal treatments and social reform was much needed. Unemployment grew and many minorities were being shipped out of the U.S, so that more native citizens would have jobs to work at. It was a big responsibility and duty for the President to fix the economic and social crisis. During Roosevelt’s presidency, he came up with “The New Deal” plan. It was to fix and recover the society and also the unfixed situations left during the previous presidency of Herbert Hoover. The nation was crying for help, and he had to think of a new plan to help aid and relief the Americans from depression. The New Deal was formed to fix the unemployment and give the Americans jobs. Unfortunately, some of their focuses were primarily on White men and not towards other races such as Native Americans, Mexicans, and Blacks, who were effected differently. Not only the minorities were being treated unequal, but the women too did not have the same rights as the White men. …show more content…
They were too suffering from the depression and most working women’s jobs were taken away and replaced with white men. The efforts and hard work by the First Lady, Eleanor Roosevelt, had much to do with the reforming of the New Deal. She included women in the acts and made sure they were of equal with the men. The New Deal made it possible for women to be in higher positions within the government such as Frances Perkins who became the first female Secretary of Labor. The bad thing was, men often seen women as being at home, caring for the children and etc. They did not like the fact that women were taking jobs away from men. Although the women were employed, they were still not of equal pay because most jobs, women were paid lower than men, even though the same work was
