There has always been prostitution in America, it was a logical response because men wanted more sex then women would give them. Someone would just have to supply the girl and that was the beginning of prostitution. Women in the pre-industrial period were unemployed and started to follow a trend that many western frontier worked in. It wasn’t illegal in those times because the government was actually quite uninterested in the matter but it was disapproved of by a lot of people. There is many gender inequality issues due that many experts consider men to have greater economic and political power than women. Feminist have two different opinions on this matter one says that women should be able to do with their bodies as they please like being a prostitute. The others question how normal it seems to people that men have more control over their bodies to fulfill their sexual desires. In the past there was an increase in diseases but the current numbers have decreased which is a sign there is less prostitution then before. It first started when populations increased and village women began to migrate to the cities. Prostitution was an organized trade in flesh for money, so these women that came to these cities found it easier to do this service. They would station themselves near military facilities, on the streets, or illegal brothels. More men wanted these women so the demand was high, and the supply was increasing to. Pimps would recruit urban lower class women meaning factory women, seamstress, waitresses and servant girls. This went on for quite sometime and then eventually the government got involved.
