Psalm 51 would be considered a prayer for forgiveness. Very much a humbling psalm as it goes into great details asking for forgiveness. In verse 7 the Bible says, “Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean.”
This passage uses Synthetic parallelism quite a bit. Let us look at a few examples. If we look at verse 2 which states, “Wash me thoroughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.” The second sentence in this case finishes what the first sentence was starting. Another example of this type of parallelism is in verse 10, “Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.” The fact this verse was written in this style made it easier for a reader such as myself to understand I personally believe.
