Psalms 90 is a Lament/ Complaint psalm asking God to redeem and have mercy on the nation. I used the NLT version on this assignment. This psalm seemed to be a hidden lament in the sense that it took several readings to discover what it was.
Verses 1-2 of the Psalm have the address and cry out to God to listen to the lament. The author praises God in this cry out in order to give him the glory in the scenario. The writer declares what God has been for the people in previous scenarios. The author shows his admiration for God’s power and existence in the world and in their lives. In verses 3-9 the writer makes the complaint to God on the behalf of the entire nation. The complaint is about God’s wrath and power of their lives. They are asking for mercy and grace in whatever tribulation or struggle the people are going through, because they have noticed God’s wrath on other people’s lives. They are crying out to God to not let that happen to them. The confession and statement of trust are given in verses 10-12 where the author states what God has done in the past. This shows that the people do not doubt God they are just asking him for something. This is a very crucial part to the Psalm, because without it, it could seem that the people doubt who God is and even their faith. This trust establishes the baseline of the people’s relationship with God. It also shows that the people do have relationships with God, so they are just coming to him in prayer for a need. Verses 13-17 conclude the Psalm with the author’s petition to God for mercy
