When I started college, I didn’t know what I wanted to do. I had a lot of ideas. For instance, I wanted to major in psychology or film or English. I wanted to become a screenwriter or a therapist or a novelist or an English language teacher. When adults would ask me that question when I was young “what do you want to be when you grow up?” I would always say at least four things: A writer, a lawyer, a photographer, and a journalist. It didn’t occur to me that I couldn’t be all of them. I know that whatever career I choose has to be worth it, I want to wake up in the morning happy to go to work. Although there are much more opportunities with a doctorates degree. This is because to practice as a clinical psychologist I would need a psychologist license. The requirements to get a psychologist’s license varies from state to state but a further advanced degree—a PhD, or PsyD is necessary to qualify for a license. Also to get a psychologists license, post-doctoral training is needed in the form of an internship.
Clinical psychology is the largest employment area in psychology. There are very limited opportunities for graduates with a B.S in psychology but for doctoral level there are plenty of opportunities. There is an average growth of this career but most people with doctoral level training can find work. Doctorate study in clinical psychology is required, which is highly competitive and most programs require a one year internship.
Salary for jobs in psychology vary a lot. For clinical psychology, the median wage is 33$ hourly, and 68,900$ annually. Private clinical psychologist can make a lot more money because they set their own wage. For someone with psychologist certification they can make a lot more in different job
