Multiple Intelligences

Multiple Intelligences Howard Gardner viewed intelligence as the capacity to solve problems or to fashion products that are in one or more cultural settings (Gardner & Hatch, 1989). He came up with eight signs of intelligence, intrapersonal (Self Smart), linguistic (Word Smart), logical-mathematical (Logic Smart), naturalist (nature smart), spatial (picture smart), bodily-kinesthetic (body smart), musical (music smart), and interpersonal (people smart). In this report I will give my perspective on the three intelligences that directly influence my life and personal success. Bodily-kinesthic intelligence means that one has the ability to use their whole body or parts of their body to solve problems. They use their mental abilities to direct bodily movements. Howard Gardner saw mental and physical ability to be related (Mark K Smith, 2002, 2008). Body movement is a key to my success, I like to move, dance, wiggle, walk, and swim. I am very good at sports, and I feel as if I have great fine motor skills. I enjoy taking things apart and putting them back together. Incorporating body movement into my learning helps me process and retain information better. I compete in, judo, jiu jitsu, muay thai, and mma, and this particular intelligence has helped me to be very successful in these sports. Not only has it helped in these sports but also in my daily endeavors. It helps me at work, I am always on time because my body is healthy and alert all the time. I do not rely on alarm clocks or energy drinks because I believe if you keep the body healthy that you will not need any of that. I have done all this just from this particular intelligence, and they way it has helped to learn the things I have learned because of it. It has conditioned my daily life and practices and I only hope to improve in this area in the future. Interpersonal intelligence shows that you have the capacity to understand motivations, intentions, and desires of other people. People like this work well with others because they know how to read them. Many people from salespeople to political leaders need to have strong interpersonal intelligence (Mark K Smith, 2002, 2008). I find this to be one of my intelligences because I like to develop ideas and learn from other people. I like to talk, and I have very strong social skills. My ability to be a people person and virtually become friends with anyone has helped me all throughout my career. My ability to work with people on a daily basis without problems has a direct reflection of my personality to my bosses. I have been hired by bosses just because they said I had a great attitude and was so positive with my outlook on life. I enjoy people and interacting with them because working alone makes for a long day. I feel like in team environments you can be more productive with you work. My ability to also read and understand people helps. I can tell when someone is not comfortable with certain things or areas that we are working on, and always find ways to ease them into it and make them feel more comfortable with it. I worked in the mines for four years as a heavy equipment trainer, and worked with multiple personalities, all to which I was successful with and received numerous awards because of my ability to work with people. Naturalist intelligence allows human beings to interpret, draw upon and put in to categories, certain features of the environment. Naturalist intelligence holds major importance in many cultures across the world (Mark K Smith, 2002, 2008). I am very sensitive to the nature and the environment. I love to be outdoors, I was raised outdoors. I have hunted, fished, camped, and learned survival my whole life. I was never home we were always out in the woods. I could name rocks, flowers, plants, birds, and trees. I know which plants are edible and which are poisonous and what to eat and
