Summary “QB1” is a book written by Mike Lupica. The book takes place in a town in Texas. This town in Texas is called Granger. No other town in Texas loves the high school football team like Granger does. The quarterback is the most important position on the field and there is a legacy in Granger with people of the name of Cullen. Troy Cullen was the first of the Cullen quarterbacks to shine at Granger High, then came Wyatt Cullen who was the first son of Troy Cullen, and now it is Jake’s turn, the youngest son of Troy Cullen is now a freshman at Granger High. Jake Cullen is full of pressure, he is worried that he won’t live up to his expectations and wants to quit. Afterwards Jake is throwing a football with Nate and Bear and Jake talks about his worries about playing football next year and how he doesn’t want all of the expectations and pressure. Nate and Bear convince him to play football. Football season comes along for Jake and he ends up being the backup quarterback behind Casey Lindell. Jake is determined to become the starting quarterback so he starts to work with Coach Jessup after practice. Jake starts to get jealous of Casey because he has the starting position and he is with Sarah Rayburn. Jake keeps working and working at getting better at quarterback. Then after sitting out several games Casey gets hurt. Jake Cullen enters the game and directs a nice drive and scores, but on the next drive Casey was back in and Jake was on the bench. AT practice the next week Jake and Casey started to split the first team snaps. Then in the game Jake played for a couple drives. This continued for two weeks, Casey and Jake were splitting snaps and no one seemed to pull ahead of the other, until Jake had a great game. Afterwards Nate and Bear went down to a place to get wings and have some fun but they ran into Casey Lindell. Casey Lindell was talking trash on Jake all night and Bear and Nate and Jake went home.
