In the world we live in today there are so many people suffering from disease, so many that marijuana has become legal in several states. Individuals who suffer every day, it becomes more difficult to deny the benefits of medical marijuana. Ask anyone who’s used it for pain management relating to a life-altering illness – Cancer, AIDS, Glaucoma, Multiple Sclerosis, and Crohn’s disease, among others – and they’ll tell you how it’s changed their lives. ("Benefits of Medical Marijuana," Wednesday, 10 February 2010 01:19, p. 1) Patients with autoimmune diseases can benefit from legal marijuana usage in a positive way. It is believed that because of the relief it has given to patients it should be legal in all states. However some people will disagree with the benefits of the physical and mental effects its plays on the body for patients. It is natural and safe on the body, but like any drug prescribed by a doctor one should always follow the guidelines. The physical benefits from legalized marijuana are one of the greatest reasons that it should be legal in all states. Many drugs that patients are taking come with terrible side effects. Medical marijuana has fewer side effects compared to most legal drugs, and has a lower percent of addiction. Patients that have HIV have terrible nausea and have poor appetites. When marijuana is ingested into the body it helps these patients who are suffering from nausea and hunger pains. This student can’t even image having to go through this the pain and the feeling of being so hungry and not being able to eat relief just cannot come soon enough. Medical marijuana increases their appetite by consuming food this allows the patents to have energy to help fight their disease, and fight to maintain a better quality of life. Other benefits of marijuana are muscle relaxation is known in patients with MD, Epilepsy, and several other diseases where a patient has uncontrollable spasm like MS, but this autoimmune disease affects the nerves. Uncontrollable spasms are uncomfortable and embarrassing marijuana helps relieve these patients. The patient’s relief from spasm is part of the relaxation benefit from legal marijuana and helps these patients sleep. Sleep is important I can’t imagine waking up in the middle of the night due to a spasm and not being able to fall back to sleep.
Using other forms of medication that are legal can lead to many side effects, and can be detrimental to patients and their families. There is a large spectrum of problems associated with narcotics, addiction being a major one. Not only do their families suffer from their addiction but our society suffers. These patients may end up committing crimes to feed their narcotic driven addiction. Many people become addicts from a simple prescription from a doctor. All these crimes affect all of us one way or another, it may affect us with family problems or it might affect us in the absorption cost that we all pay
