This article study is a qualitative study done by Allen and Jacques because the study conducted was subjective with explorative methods. Qualitative research means a study that's in the form of words from quotes and data with graphs and charts. This qualitative study and analysis was conducted in 2011 by the authors, with a sample population of 16 cops and crimes most committed on campus. The focus was on alcohol, crimes at university, a NVivo code, the southeast, with interviews of linemen and supervising staff. Police officers interviewed were mainly male, white, and close to all had 4 year college.

One key finding was a theory about crime by police officers known as rational choice, or a criminal's belief they can get away with crime or lack of opportunities. Social learning is interactions with others and how or why relationships, behavior, and beliefs may lead to crime and criminal activity. Social bond means lack of education or social norms being present and influencing the criminal negatively. One half of crimes are petty larceny but other officers suggested drug use is as common as larceny. Officer Bratton supported the broken-windows theory, and lived it as a policeman. Officers Combs and Wilson stated larceny is due to irresponsibility with property, Combs with Deen and Way, suggested lack of parental supervision. Larceny represents opportunity theory of crime but not watching possessions could be due to no previous victimization. Social learning could also be linked to underage drinking, combined with lacking supervision.
