The justice system sets guidelines to provide a organized process, in which individuals are encouraged to defend their rights. Within these rules, individuals are allowed to challenge the law if they feel their rights are being imposed upon. The Court is one of these means that allow people to challenge the justice system.
This week I had the chance to sit in a civil court procedures. I decided to visit the Queens County Civil Court for the day and noticed quite a couple of things through out the entire experience. A civil case is when a person or entity(Plaintiff), submits a claim against another person (Defendant). Both the plaintiff and the defendant are also referred to as “parties”. Both parties were disputing for martial assets property. Both the plaintiff and defendant acted appropriately with each other and awaited their turn to speak. Its environment was nothing like you would see on TV, the public who attended the court like myself were noisy and interruptive. The court officer kept telling some of the people to put their phone away. I remember being informed by one of the court officers that the judge would be sluggish. The plaintiffs lawyer went on forever, almost an hour passed and still kept going. Some of the jurors were falling asleep as well as the judge while he was speaking. It seems that he could have been more concise with his argument. Pretty bad when even the judge nods off. However, there was something that bothered me from lawyers. While observing the whole case, i noticed that both lowers were slobs. One of them just topped even more off, he wasn't dressed properly. The defendants lawyer had his whole hem hanging out with string following him everywhere. This guy’s pants were wrinkled and his hair completely void of any type of brushing. I would never hire any one that looked like that, and I would be scared if I had him assigned to me. There was only one professional looking lawyer and he was the plaintiffs lawyer. The defendants lawyers looked third rate compared to him. The lawyers began their closing statements. It was
