RIP System Ethical Dilemmas

The RIP system is a tremendous help in the emergency room. When there are numerous patients in need, the RIP system comes in handy by giving dire information to the doctors. Some think that the RIP system is unethical because it prompts doctors to not try to save a patient that is close to death. The RIP system is a necessity in the emergency room because of just that. William E. Thompson and Joseph V. Hickey wrote an incredibly informational essay about the RIP system in the article “Medical Technology and Ethical Issues”. Computer technology is finding its way into everything today. These computer systems give a great deal of information that humans cannot. This system gives a rating of the likelihood of survival based on information that doctors have to enter into the system. So if there were two patients in the emergency room and one got a rating of 15% while the other got a rating of 23%, then the doctors would put all of their effort into saving the patient with the 23% chance of surviving. The RIP system is something that in my opinion is a necessity in a hospital setting. Knowing the likelihood of survival for someone who is dying can help save a lot of time and resources. If they know someone is really close to death then the doctors can alert the family of the patient’s situation and let the patient die peacefully. This way the family can grieve easier and be with their loved one in their time of passing instead of finding out while in a waiting room. The RIP system allows for more lives to be saved and for the effective use of treatments. Using the RIP system also depletes any possibility of there being an issue with
