Perspective Dominates Images Images have the ability to explain and convey more than words sometimes can. One single image has the capability to describe a whole situation. Throughout history we use images to analyze and discover more about different historical moments. An image has the power to go beyond what the eyes can see, but often times can be bias. Since images do not have the ability to express exactly what is going on the images are determined by perspective. Perspective can be translated differently by each individual person looking at the image. In both Rachel Kaddish’s article “Who is This Man, and Why Is He Screaming?” and the images of Mumford it is shown that images do not have the ability to describe exactly what is being shown. We all see things in individual ways, since our perspectives are unique it makes it challenging to not be bias or subjective with explanations of images. Due to this bias, cultures and societies can be easily misinterpreted and seen opposite, because of the variety of perspectives that view them. …show more content…
What we see in an image is merely our own interpretation, and not an actual depiction of what is going on. The phrase “a picture is worth a thousand words” is accurate a picture can really mean a thousands words all because of perspective. If we use a single image to be the interpretation of an entire culture, we would have an abundance of view points that may or may not be correct. One image can give more insight and imagery, on a culture or situation but it does not have the ability to clearly define a culture. One single image cannot do a culture justice because cultures are constantly changing and evolving making it impossible to narrow a culture down to one image.
