Racial Profiling Today

On September 11, 2001 the World Trade Center in New York City, or the Twin Towers, was destroyed by terrorists. 3,000 people were killer during the attack on the White House, the pentagon, and the Twin Towers. The terrorists were undetected through airport security, which they then hijacked commercial airplanes. After 9/11 many people were in panic and scared, law enforcement wanted to find anymore terrorist so they resorted in using racial profiling. The meaning of Racial profiling is a use of an individual’s race or ethnicity by law enforcement personnel as a key factor in deciding whether to engage enforcement by making a traffic stop and then questioning or arrest.
Racial profiling is used in everyday life in both good and bad way especially in law enforcement, they use it to suspect someone depending on the person’s race. I believe racial profiling is an effective tool to prevent crimes, identify criminals and save money.

Many people argue that when law enforcers use racial profiling to stop Civilians who are not in the wrong, racial profiling goes against the Equal Rights every person has.“Racial profiling continues to be a prevalent and egregious form of discrimination in the United States. This unjustifiable practice remains a stain on American democracy and an affront to the promise of racial equality”(www.aclu.org). Law enforcers also do not need trust in order to their job, the job of a law enforcer is to insure safety to civilians living in their nation.“The central task of a law enforcement agent is to protect the lives and property of those under his or her jurisdiction, as well as help keep the public safe”(www.education-portal.com). “A police officer enforces prevailing laws, attempt to prevent crime, and generally look out for the health of the community”(www.wisegeek.com).

Racial profiling discriminates and humiliates other races like Arabians, African Americans, Hispanic, ans Asians. For example a real life story of a retired military personnel and his son in Oklahoma tells that they were pulled over by a police officer and told the father to step out of the care. The police officer then hand cuffed the father and made him sit in the police vehicle, while his son watched everything happen. Then the officer brought police dogs and dismantled the father’s car and after then they were finished finding nothing they let the father and the son go. After the son cried after the incident shocked from what happen and the father felt humiliated. This story is from the article called Hounding the innocent by New York Times Bob Herbet.
However it is possible the officer got a radio call about a crime and was told of the person description like a Black male in his 40’s. “ The stops are not driven by the description of the person who committed the crime” ( Mayor Giuliani From the article hounding the innocent). He know that his men are not suppose to make those kinds of racial assumption he they did they would have been in deep trouble.

Racial profiling saves money because it
