The movie Remember the Titans takes place in Alexandria, Virginia, in 1971. The movie is about a high school football team that overcomes many difficulties to win a state championship, the high school is T.C Williams. The conflict in the movie is racism. Racial tension at the time was pretty bad because blacks and white did not get along. Tension explode in the city when a white store owner slayed a black teenager. In the meantime, T.C Williams integrated, which mean that the football team would be integrated as well. The players were furious because there were going to be coaching by an African American head coach, played by the legendary Denzel Washington. At first Yoast did not like the idea but he eventually stays. Because he decided to stay he lost his chance of getting inducted into the Hall of Fame. Coach Yoast has a young daughter name Sheryl who’s very passionate about football, at first she did not like the idea that her dad wasn’t going to coach anymore. Before the season start the football team had a camp at Gettysburg College, one of the films main characters are introduced. Gerry Bertier the only all American on the team let Coach Boone knows to reserve most of the spot on offense and special teams for white players, he says the defense is already set we don’t need anybody of color. When they got to camp, Boone separated the players into groups. He pairs white and black players together and they will also be roommates. Gerry was paired with Julius who is also another main character in the movie. They did not like each other because of their differences. At camp they were fighting among themselves, they were fighting over which bed they are going to sleep in, Gerry and Julius got into a fight because Julius wanted to hang a poster in the room. They were fighting over little things that could have been prevented, which shows how difficult it was for them because they had to deal among themselves and in society. The others see this which makes them start playing as a team. The team unite and they started to win games, they made it all the way to regionals. They were celebrations in the streets, the turning point of the movie took place during the celebration when Gerry got hit by a drunk driver. Julius find out and he came to the hospital right away, Gerry did not want to see anyone but Julius because of the relationship they had develop. When Julius got the hospital the nurse said only family was allowed, Gerry respond with he is family which shows how he came a long way to realize that him and Julius weren’t so different after all. The team won the state championship, the win impacted the players and the fans because they came a long way, overcomes all sort of adversity and obstacles. One the most important technique in the movie is the music, the song “Na, Na, Na/ Hey Hey Goodbye was a popular song the time. The players were saying goodbye to the walls and challenges they were facing. Also the song was playing at Gerry funeral which was a form of saying goodbye to a loved one. The songs remind people of emotions and excitement. During the funereal they were singing the songs really slowly we can see the sadness in the character’s face. The film music, angles, and dialogue makes the viewers feel emotional to the theme presented. As a result of all the events that took place the movie shows
