Today, Wisconsin has the unimpressive title of having some of the most segregated cities in the country. Among those cities is Madison, home of the University of Wisconsin. The article "Coming to grips with racial disparities in Madison" highlights how extremely segregated the city is. Massey and Denton argued that "The spatial isolation of black Americans was achieved by a conjunction of racist attitudes, private behaviors, and institutional practices that disenfranchised blacks from urban hosing markets" (83). Even though racism may not be as prevalent in today's society as it once was, it still exists and many minorities, African Americans especially, still live in the areas they were forced into in the past. Along with being confined to
