Racism in modern day America Struggles against the racist bias held by a substantial amount of Americans has accomplished much since the end of slavery, though, this fight will continue for much longer before it is completely resolved, if it ever is. The battle against racism has gone on for decades, lessening and lessening the racial bias in our society until the point we have reached today. Despite having come so far, we see through the attacks in Charlottesville, Virginia, as well as, violence inflicted by police officers on African Americans, that there remains a large issue in our country regarding racial bias. The majority of our country’s citizens recognize that racism is wrong and speak out against it, though, we continue to struggle with the few who, for whatever reason, continue to think of themselves as superior. Movements, such as the Black Lives Matter movement, speak out against racist police and injustices that have been committed within our country. Despite the government’s clear stance on racism, there remains a large amount of people who continue to be heavily racist, making it difficult to believe that our country can eventually eradicate racism entirely. Previously, it had seemed the United States had come so far, though it is now clear that there exists a heavy population of racists, not only in the southern areas of our country, but within our own schools. There is a certain level of ‘casual racism’ that is witnessed by students everyday, referring to the casual conversation among students while using racial slurs as if it is common practice. The hope of racism being a problem that will simply pass with time is therefore debunked seeing as young children continue to use this inappropriate type of
