The fear had finally hit me as I walked up to the jail. Everything was silent and there was no sign of any movement. Had they already got to Tom? Am I to late? All I could think of is the bad things that could happen. Finally I decided to say, “Tom, you still in there.” He said, “I’m in here. Please don’t let them get to me.” “Don’t worry Tom, nobody is going to touch you tonight. I decided to wait it out because I knew were people coming for him. I found a chair and sat down to read. It knew it might be a while before anyone shows up, but I knew they were coming. I thought I’d just call Heck once they showed up and everything would be over quick. Multiple people were getting out of the car and I realized this is more of a mob than just a couple of people. These men were all dressed like they didn’t want to be known. I thought it would’ve been a good time to call Heck but I decided to talk to them first. One of them said, “He in there Finch” I thought if these guys are asking for him, they must mean business. These guys want to hurt Tom and I’m caught in the middle of it. I said, “He is, and he’s asleep. Don’t wake him up.” Another man said, “You know what we want. Get aside from the door.” I was not about to let these guys get near Tom. I finally concluded that I need to call Heck Tate, so I told them, “You can turn around and go home again, Walter. Heck Tate’s around somewhere. A different guy said, “Heck’s bunch's so deep in the woods they won’t get out till morning. Called him off on a snipe hunt.” Once I heard that the fear struck me again.
