The problems in Huckleberry Finn were suppose to open people's eyes to the dangers and violence in their world. The book may have succeeded at one point, but our world has reverted back to it’s old ways of racism, violence, law and justice issues, and much more. Society hasn’t changed since Huck Finn’s time. The same problems don’t exist they have just found new ways to come through. Racism is still rampant in our modern time from college students being tormented, and hazed, to people being denied service because of their skin. These problems should be fixed, but it seems that some people can’t let go of racist stereotypes. In Huckleberry Finn the people in the book own slaves, use the word Ni---r, and simply treat people of a different skin color badly. “When they told me there was a State in this country where they’d let that nigger vote, I drawed out. I says I’ll never vote again…I says to the people, why ain’t this nigger put up at auction and sold?” Twain Pg. 27 This quote shows how racist and uncaring people were back then towards people of different races. People now a days rob and con others just like the King and the Duke do form the book. People steal and take what isn’t theirs like the robbers on the sinking steamboat. These violence problems that exist today really shouldn’t. People should have learned by now to just get along, and not perform these acts of violence against one another. Violence in the book has people getting shot and killed, people getting stolen from, and so much more.
