A real life struggle not everyone can say they go through, but they know about is the racism against African Americans. A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry portrays this not just perfectly, but flawlessly to the readers. The reader not only can imagine how the racism was back then, and still to this day, but Lorraine makes us, the reader, feel exactly how the characters felt when acting this play out, and after publishing it and even reading about it. During the times of the civil rights movement, racism was at it’s highest and African Americans were pushing past that and fought for equality. A Raisin in the Sun is a play about an African American family living through the civil rights movement and struggling through the discrimination they face trying to reach their goal and trying to start a new life but because they are African American it is difficult for them, along with fighting for equality, and finding themselves while examining the issues of racism and equality and the idea that people are the only ones that separate themselves from each other. A critical lens allows a reader to view the novel, play or excerpt of some sort through a lens that widens our perspective on certain …show more content…
Throughout the play we also witness some relationships getting broken while others mend, and we also witness misrepresentations of colored people and the stereotypical information given to the readers throughout the play. We see also that the family in the story go through rough times and the father only has “stories about how rich white people live” to give to his son, because in those days it was hard, but especially for a colored person, all they had were dreams. In other words, throughout the play we will see the struggles being redeemed, some dreams coming true and how the African American culture really is and how some people will embrace
