A residential school is a school only for Aboriginal kids to learn. this exemplifies systemic racism because it involves the government. It was illegal for an Aboriginal person to go to another educational system .The idea of residential school was to take young kids and keep them in a civilized environment. They wanted the Aboriginal kids to adapt to a new western culture and that the whole purpose was to discontinue the Indian Culture. They wanted to erase their culture and abolish the native traditions so the that it would not be passed to the next generations. The Canadians had already ruined the aboriginals in a way to trying to demolish their culture from creating the residentials schools. They were treated like there were nothing. From the start it was bad. They took the kids away from their parents at a young age and do see their parents for a long time or even don't see them. Within the school their system was terrible they physically abuse, sexually abuse or kill the innocent aboriginals kids. Today we see problems of Aboriginals of having poorer health than as other Canadians. They need the equality of health care as the Aboriginal people remain at higher risk for illness than not aboriginal people. They are vulnerable to chronic diseases, and mental illness. It seems ironic for Canada's universal health care system to be consistently extolled for its quality of care even though it remains out of reach for aboriginal people. They have also higher rates of suicidal rates and are twice of the national average and show no signs of decreasing. The cause of suicidal is because the environment they are in. They don't have the essential things we need in life, which is clean water. In which they don't have the access to clean water. These are the things they can get easily sick from. Another problem is Alcohol and drug and is common in Aboriginal communities. The parents and older members of the community drink and take pills to pass the time as they cannot kill themselves. They have responsibilities and families to take care of. They have to be a role model. But the ones that are depressed are still looking for an outlet where they can forget about the world treating them like aliens or trash. Based on this, it passes down to young kids who follow and sometimes feel the are the need of doing it as well. This can transition to them doing things much worse such as joining a gang in the area.
