In chapter 2 and 4 of David Rahn’s and Terry Linhart’s book, Evangelism Remixed, Rahn and Linhart describe the purpose of being mentors and program providers within a youth ministry. A definition of an adult acting as a mentor within a youth ministry is when they beging to focus on developing a student rather than a program. However, in chapter 4 of the text we find that adults play a crucial role in acting as program providers. In other words, adults in youth ministry should mentor students and help with event planning. For example, adult volunteers need to be pouring into students and helping with the planning of the programs. The outcome of adults committing themselves to these behaviors is great! Evangelism Remixed gives the example of a young man named Troy who was properly developed in a mature student who wanted to reach his community. I am convinced that adults are pivotal in youth ministry and should be leveraged for the students’ gain. Adults can serve as mentors, and they can also take the stress off of students that comes from trying to plan the ministry they are involved in. I plan on implementing this chapter into my ministry by making an extreme effort to get adults involved. I want to see adults, and myself, step up and mentor students.
