Steven Allan Spielberg was born in 1946 in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Leah Frances (Posner), a concert pianist and restaurateur, and Arnold Spielberg, an electrical engineer who worked in computer development. His parents were both born to Russian Jewish immigrant families. He went to California State University Long Beach, but dropped out to pursue his entertainment career ( “Steven Spielberg Biography.” par. 1). He met George Lucas when he was in college. They met backstage at a film festival and became friends. After George’s success with star wars he asked Spielberg what he wanted to do, Spielberg replied “An action-adventure movie, I said, something like James Bond. George threw one of his ides at me, and that was the first time I heard the name Indiana Smith.

In the thick jungle of the South American continent, a renowned archaeologist and expert on the occult is studying fragments of a map, when one of his exploration party pulls a gun. The archeologist pulls out a bullwhip and disarms him, sending him running. He and a guide enter a vast cave that contains several traps created by the ancient race which hide inside a handheld statue; Jones barely escapes the traps but is cornered by native tribesmen who serve Belloq, an old enemy who arrogantly leaves with the statue, while Jones must flee for his life and escape on a friend's seaplane. Back in the US two agents from US Army intelligence tell him of Nazi German activities in archeology, including a gigantic excavation site in Egypt, a site that an intercepted cable indicates to Jones is the location of the Ark of the Covenant- the powerful chest bearing the Ten Commandments- that the Nazis can use to destroy any enemy. Indy must recruit his ex-girlfriend and an old man in Cairo to infiltrate the Nazi site and make off with the Ark.
