Analysis of Letter One
Letters to a Young Poet “Letter One”, written by Rainer Maria Rilke is a letter to a young poet. The reason for Rilke writing this is to inform a young poet who seeks help from Rilke, asking him for criticism and what he thinks they should do. Instead Rilke responds to the poet with advice rather than criticism. Rilke tells the young poet that he would rather give him advice rather than criticism because “Nothing touches a work of art so little as words of criticism.” (p. 5).
