He shrugged his shoulders. Then he sat down, took a drink of brandy from a silver flask, lit a cigarette, and hummed a bit from Madame Butterfly. The liquor burned down his throat and gave him a soothing feeling. The cigar smoke from the room filled his lungs. In this usual occasion, he would be setting up his new throphy. Sadly, Rainsford wouldn't be the new edition for his collection. Either he was dead with piles of rocks surrounding him or has disappeared off the island.

Later that night, the general served himself a meal. It was nothing exquisite like Ivan used to make, but rather dull in comparison. He sent a glass of wine on the far left corner of the table. The general was about to sit down when he realized he had forgotten

Zaroff raised an eyebrow in question. He then felt a sudden pressure onto his chest. In an instant he was pushed into the chair with a meat knife in his throat. It was Rainsford covered in blood and sweat pinning Zaroff with all his strength. Finally, a sense of thrill has finally gotten into the boy after all !

Rainsford began talking rapidly. He kept discussing all about how evil Zaroff was, and how he's simply the worst man he ever meet. None of this interested Zaroff who was patiently waiting for Rainsford to stop. Zaroff just simply stated to Rainford that it never mattered what he said, what he did was simply pure magic to him. The hunting and the killing. Oh it was just simply marvelous!

Zaroff told Rainsford to sit himself down and calm himself for a moment. It was rather such a long climb and he believed he must be thirsty. A cup of wine would surely help. Oddly enough, Rainsford obyed and he sat down. Rainsford would continue the game, but he would win. Zaroff stood up and poured Rainsford a glass of wine. He set it down in front of Rainsford and asked him to drink it. Rainsford fought back the response and told Zaroff instead to drink from the cup. Rainsford believed the cup surely had poisoned. Zaroff grinned at the thought that the boy was that foolish enough. He raised the cup to his lips and drank the whole cup without a single drop
