As soon as Rainsford the protagonist seen the gun being pointed at him by a giant man, he should have known this island was not the safest place to be at the time. In the short story “ The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell Rainsford the protagonist goes overboard and and gets trapped on island where he is then hunted by a man who hunts men for a living. In the story, Rainsford will prove himself to be a fearless man , a skilled hunter and a calm person in the most dangerous situations. The protagonist , Rainsford, is a fearless man in the short story “The Most Dangerous Game”. This is seen when Rainsford doesn't believe the captain or the crew about the island being evil. This is seen when General Zaroff gets stuck in one of Rainsford traps and compliments Rainsford by saying “ Not many men know how to make a Malay man catcher” ( Connell. 54) . This tells us even with the many men that the general receives at the island not many of them know how to make this certain type of trap and that Rainsford is a intelligent hunter and that Rainsford knows exactly what to do when the time is right.

The protagonist, Rainsford is a calm person in the short story “The Most Dangerous Game”. This is seen when Rainsford gets to the house and the door opens and he sees and giant man, Ivan holding gun straight to his face. Rainsford doesn't panic and says “ Don't be alarmed, “ ( Connell. 43) he says this with a smile on his face as well. Even though there is a huge man holding a gun at Rainsford he stays calm and doesn't panic and simply says don't be alarm.

Rainsford shows that he a is a fearless man, and a skilled hunter, and a calm person in the most difficult situations. Rainsford was coming to the island with the attitude that the prey has no fear and feel nothing when they are being hunted by someone.
