In 1968, one of the most well-known assassinations in the country points to Martin Luther King. His death impacted many people, but one particular man was affected by his death and became determined to be a leading Civil Rights activist. Ralph Abernathy had always had someone to look up to, but when the day of King’s assassination came, that all changed. Ralph Abernathy impacted the Civil Rights Movement by supporting many campaigns, helping people and inspiring others.

The early life of Ralph Abernathy consisted of farming, graduating, and the Army. Abernathy was born on March 11, 1926, in Linden, Alabama. He was enrolled at Alabama State University, near his graduation he got drafted into the U.S Army for World War II. Before going into the Army, he was one of the farmers at his house, his family had a large about of land 500-acre of land, which his dad saved up all of his money to buy on his own. This group believed that all people should have the necessary materials for what they need to live, their goal was to gain economic justice for the poor people in the United States(“Ralph Abernathy”). One of the quotes that Ralph said during these hard times or being treated unfair and beaten is, “Bring on your tear gas, bring your grenades, your new supplies of Mace, your state troopers and even your national guards. But let the record show we ain’t going to be turned around.” (“Ralph Abernathy Quotes”).I believe that this quote has a lot of meaning behind it and it is showing how much they are willing to go through for what they believe in, and how they strongly care for what they all are fighting for, also what they are willing to go through to get there.
