Law and Order TV Series
Law and Order: Special Victims Unit show first played in 1999, created by Dick Wolf. This show has aired for more than 320 episodes and is very popular in the U.S. today. The main objective in Law and Order is to capture the person who has committed a crime by finding clues through people and evidence. In the Special Victims Unit, the detectives specialize in sex crimes that involve catching rapists, child pornographers, sexual abusers...etc. This show relates to many real life situations because people are raped, harassed, and taken advantage of everyday, in which people that are victims of those crimes have to seek justice.
In my first example, there was a young girl from Honduras who came to America because her family sold her to an American man for money. She placed a call to the Special Victims Unit stating that the man who bought her had her locked up in a room and took nude pictures of her with no food, water, or access to the outside world. As the girl gives details on what has happened over the 911 call, Detective Benson tries to figure out the exact location of the girl so that she does not die in a matter of days. In addition, Benson receives new evidence regarding the physical appearance of the American man as well as details that could help get an exact location of the young girl. In conclusion, Benson and the police department finally arrive to the location of the girl and rescue her, while they come in contact with the American man who was the suspect.
In my second example, there was another young girl who stayed with her parents and a friend of the family who was male. One day the young girl went to school and made a visit to the nurse’s office because she had been having really bad stomach cramps and vaginal irritability. The nurse referred the young girl to a hospital where she had been evaluated by a doctor. The doctor showed results to the young girl’s parents stating she had a sexually transmitted disease called gonorrhea. Special Victims Unit was contacted because the girl had been suspected of sexual abuse. Once the detectives questioned the girl, parents, and school friends, they came to the conclusion that it was the male friend staying with the family. The male friend was diagnosed with different medications that were found in the young girl’s system. In addition, the male friend was captured and put away for sexual abuse.
