“The Pedestrian” is an eye-opening short story, which portrays the world as deserted and bitter. The science fiction author Ray Bradbury predicts that society’s increased use of technology makes people more introverted; ultimately, resulting in isolation and feelings of despair. In the story, individuals are not leaving their houses due to the growth in technology, which is consuming their lives. Furthermore, the outside world is not valued as “…houses [have] all of its electric lights brightly lit, every window a loud yellow illumination, square and warm in the cold darkness” (Bradbury). Bradbury emphasises how he wanted the audience to depict the forthcoming society, hence why humanity does not see the significance in the outside world anymore.
